As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) you will work in an expanding medical field under the supervision of a medical technologist or a physician. The job requires you to be dependable, give attention to detail and to be honest and ethical. You will work with people mostly in hospitals but also in clinics and doctors’ offices. You will conduct laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, and play a significant role in the medical world.

The Medical Laboratory Technician curriculum at South Central College allows you to apply your newly gained knowledge in a simulated laboratory setting. You will gain experience and practice in basic clinical laboratory techniques, procedures and phlebotomy while you earn your AAS degree. The MLT program at South Central College is nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Once you have completed the program you will be eligible for the national certification exam through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

South Central College’s Medical Lab Technician program includes a “hybrid” classes with hands-on and face-to-face laboratory experiences combined with online material. You will also get the additional experience of being placed in a hospital or clinic internship.

Prerequisite Courses Required Before Starting Program: Medical Terminology (HC 1000), Laboratory Techniques and Orientation (MDLT 1810), Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM 108) or Chemistry for Health Sciences (CHEM 110), Human Biology (BIOL 162), any required college readiness courses
