Faribault Campus Charting the Future

SCC Faribault Campus to host Charting the Future Gallery Walk on March 16

(March 11, 2015) On Monday, March 16 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. South Central College’s Faribault campus will host a Charting the Future Gallery Walk to get feedback from the campus community about the work of four implementation teams: (1) Academic Planning & Collaboration, (2) Education Technology,
(3) Information Technology Systems Design and (4) Competency Certification & Credit for Prior Learning. Dr. Annette Parker, president of South Central College, serves as Convener for the Competency Certification & Credit for Prior Learning implementation team.

Last fall, various colleges and universities hosted similar Gallery Walks and provided feedback on the first four Charting the Future implementation teams: Student Success, Diversity, Comprehensive Workplace Solutions and System Incentives & Rewards. The feedback that was provided can be viewed at www.chartingthefuturemnscu.com/gallery-walk/gallery-walk-responses/.

The eight teams and the Gallery Walks are all part of Charting the Future, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities strategic planning process.  The eight implementation teams were formed to act on six recommendations developed with input from more than 5,000 students, faculty and staff and adopted by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees in November 2013.

The four implementation teams featured in the Gallery Walks last fall are currently in the process of reviewing their Gallery Walk information and refining their initial ideas and concepts. Teams featured in the Gallery Walks this spring are expected to receive their Gallery Walk feedback in May and will review and make refinements to their initial ideas and concepts over the summer and in early fall.

More information will be available at chartingthefuturemnscu.com as work on Charting the Future continues. Individuals interested in the process are encouraged to attend one of the 39 Gallery Walks happening across the state in person, provide feedback via the Online Gallery Walk (available through April 8), send feedback to This email address is being protected from spambots. South Central College’s North Mankato campus will also host a Gallery Walk on April 2 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Faribault Campus Expansion Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening October 2

Expansion made possible by $13.3 million state bond funding in 2012

On Thursday, October 2, South Central College will celebrate the expansion of its Faribault campus at 1225 Third Street SW in Faribault. The event will include a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m., followed by a Grand Opening from 4:15 – 7 p.m. All are invited to attend and enjoy refreshments, prizes and tour the impressive new campus areas.

“This is a celebration for the entire community and region, as we mark our institution’s 50th year in Faribault,” said South Central College President Dr. Annette Parker.

South Central College received $13.3 from the 2012 Minnesota State Bonding Bill for the expansion, and broke ground on the project in April 2013. Improvements include new student spaces, labs and classrooms.

“This incredible expansion was already underway when I joined South Central in July 2013,” said Dr. Parker. “The anticipation of this new modern campus was just one of the reasons I was so excited to come here. Now that the vision has come to fruition, it is rewarding to see our students, faculty, staff and community members coming together to learn and grow in this wonderful new environment.”

FastTRAC: Pathways to Manufacturing Careers

Fast Track: Pathways to Manufacturing Careers

(March 11, 2015) South Central College will once again offer manufacturing Fast Track programming this spring and summer in partnership with the South Central Workforce Council, the Mankato WorkForce Center and Adult Basic Education.

Fast Track is a program that provides students with free preparation classes—including reading, math, and computer skills—while allowing them to simultaneously explore advanced manufacturing careers. After the successful completion of the prep classes, students will be ready to begin four core advanced manufacturing courses at South Central College.

Offered during the summer and fall of 2015, these core courses will prepare students to take the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician assessments resulting in a nationally-recognized industry credential. They are also the first step into SCC’s advanced manufacturing pathways for Welding, Computer Integrated Machining and Mechatronics. Students may qualify for additional resources, scholarships or academic assistance as they enroll in these exciting pathways.

The first Fast Track six-week manufacturing bridge program will run on SCC’s North Mankato campus from April 20–May 28, with a second session planned to start in July. For more information call Mankato Area Adult Basic Education at (507) 345-5222 or visit www.southcentral.edu/fast.
